One lodge, several names

People search for Elephant Safari Park Lodge, Mason Elephant Lodge and Elephant Safari Park in Bali, and all three lead to one site in Taro, north of Ubud. The certifier lists it as Mason Elephant Park and Lodge, owned and operated by Mason Adventures.5

The older wording survives in the park's own address line, which still reads Jalan Elephant Safari Park, Taro, Tegallalang, Gianyar.1 The separate lodge site gives its address as Jalan Elephant Park Taro, Taro Village, Tegallalang, Ubud, with the postcode 80561.6

We mention this because a booking page, a review site and a map pin may each use a different name for the same gate. Match the address and the postcode, not the brand, before you pay a deposit or tell a driver where to go.

What the lodge is

The lodge describes itself as a boutique hotel of 30 rooms, each with a different accommodation type and its own elephant touch, and says it sits within the Mason Elephant Park.3,2 It also says it won two categories at the 2019 World Luxury Hotel Awards, which is the lodge's own claim and not one we have checked.8

The park around it is the one where the certifier lists over 30 Sumatran elephants.5 Staying in the lodge therefore means living at the edge of a working elephant park, with the park's hours, noise and routines as part of the setting.

That setting is the draw, and also the limit. Taro is cooler and greener than the coast, which the park gives as its reason for locating the herd there, but it lies a good distance from beaches and from most Bali nightlife.9

What a stay includes

The lodge lists guest inclusions such as elephant bathing sessions, a day trek with a night safari, access to the park and gardens, a spa and a private bar, with a note that the inclusions are subject to the specific rate plan.4 Read that note as a warning: the headline list is not the same on every booking.

Before you book, ask which inclusions your rate actually carries, whether the bathing session is guaranteed or on request and what the elephants are doing during it. The park says its mahouts work to a no-punishment policy and that its elephants are tethered only at meal and sleep times.10,11

Elephant rides are not part of any stay now. The park's managing company announced on 25 January 2026 that all riding had ended, after two government warnings.7,12 If a lodge package still lists one, that is an error to raise before you arrive.

Elephant Safari Park Lodge prices: what we can and cannot say

Visitors ask about Elephant Safari Park Lodge prices, and we have to be plain: the lodge and park pages we read do not print a room rate, and a rate we guessed would be worse than none. Room prices also move with the rate plan, the season and the inclusions.4

What the park does publish is the structure of a day visit. General admission covers a visit with meal and transport not included, and it sells further tours on top, among them a Wash and Bathe tour that includes a breakfast buffet and transfers.13,14 Ask the park for the current figures.

For comparison with a night in a lodge, the cheapest elephant day we can price is a daytime one: our care day at Bali Zoo is listed from $78 with lunch and zoo admission, and you sleep wherever you like.

Planning a stay

From the first search to the gate

Check that the page you read names Mason Elephant Park and Lodge or the Jalan Elephant Safari Park address.1

  2. Prior to booking

    Show the address

    Taro Village, Tegallalang, postcode 80561.6

  5. As a backup

    Hold a day trip

A day's notice cancels our care day at no cost.

A day trip instead of an overnight stay

Many visitors want the elephants without a night in Taro. A guided day does that, and the Bali Zoo care day lists 7 hours, an English-speaking mahout and hotel pickup from Kuta, Seminyak, Canggu, Nusa Dua, Tanjung Benoa, Jimbaran, Sanur and Ubud.

It is a different experience from a lodge stay. You meet the elephants at a zoo, with lunch and admission folded in, and the guide explains the mud bath, which the zoo says helps elephants stay cool because they have no sweat glands.15 You do not wake up beside the herd, and you do not need to arrange transport to Taro.

Cancel the care day a day or more ahead and the whole amount returns to you, and payment can wait. That flexibility is useful while you compare lodge dates and rates elsewhere.

Getting to Taro and planning the trip

Taro is north of Ubud. Indonesia Travel says a prepaid cab from the airport to Ubud is possible but pricey, and that taxis, rental cars and buses also run.16 Allow time for the last stretch, which is on smaller roads.

Bali's dry months stretch from April to October, with rain concentrated from November to March, and the ministry cautions that warming has made the pattern harder to predict.17,18 A park visit works in either season, and rain mostly changes what you wear.

Whatever you choose, book in the order that protects you: lodge dates first if you must stay, then any day trips you can cancel. Keep the lodge confirmation and the park's address with the postcode on your phone for the driver.6

Reading reviews and photos of the lodge

A lodge inside an elephant park attracts two kinds of reviews: those written about the room and those written about the elephants. Read both, but weigh them differently. A complaint about a bathroom tells you about the building, while a comment on how an elephant was handled tells you about the program, and the second matters more for this page.

Look at dates, too. The riding ended only in January 2026, so a review from before then may describe an activity that no longer exists.7 Photographs of a visitor on an elephant belong to that earlier period, and any listing that still shows one deserves a question rather than a booking.

When two sources disagree, prefer the one that gives a date and a specific detail. A review that names the month, the mahout and the activity is more useful than a pile of reviews that call the place magical, and it is the kind of evidence you can check against the lodge's own description of what a stay includes.

Budgeting around the lodge

Because the lodge does not publish a rate we can quote, build your budget around the pieces you can price. A daytime elephant outing at Bali Zoo from $78 or a zoo entrance from $21 gives you a floor for the days around a stay.

Add the costs that sit outside any rate plan: transfers to Taro, meals outside the lodge, tips for guides and the Bali tourist levy. Foreign tourists owe a levy of Rp 150,000 per person, once per trip, and it goes through the Love Bali system, either ahead of the flight or at the airport and port desks.19,20

Then decide whether the lodge is the destination or the base. If it is the destination, the park's own inclusions justify the stay. If it is a base, a cheaper bed nearer Ubud plus a day with the elephants may serve you better, and it keeps your dates flexible if the weather turns.
